What you’ll get from this guide
- A weekly cut on a typical suburban lawn (a lot of up to 1/2 acre) runs $45–$65 in 2026; 1/2–1 acre runs $60–$150 and 2 acres $100–$260.
- Per acre, quotes run $50–$200; per square foot, $0.01–$0.06. Big, open lots get the lowest rate per acre.
- Charge about 30% more per visit for cuts every two weeks and about 50% more for overgrown lawns.
- Set a $40–$50 minimum per visit, bill monthly (price per cut × 4.33 for weekly service) and aim for a 15–25% profit margin.
Price the Stop, Then the Grass
Every lawn on your route has a fixed cost before the mower starts: unloading, the drive to the next stop, trimming, edging and blowing off the driveway. That is why a small lawn never costs half as much as a lawn twice its size. Price mowing as a base fee for the stop plus a rate for the area.
This guide's calculator uses $35 per stop plus $2.00 per 1,000 sq ft of grass. That lands a 1/4-acre lot at $49 a cut, a 1/2-acre lot at $65 and an acre of grass at $122, all inside 2026's market ranges. Change both numbers to match your own costs.
What Lawn Care Businesses Charge per Cut in 2026 (US)
| Lawn | Weekly cut | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1/4 acre | $45–$65 | Most suburban lawns; 6,000–8,000 sq ft of grass |
| 1/4–1/2 acre | $50–$75 | Add for trees, beds and fences |
| 1/2–1 acre | $60–$150 | Zero-turn territory; sources disagree most here |
| 1–2 acres | $100–$260 | Price per acre from here up |
| Per acre | $50–$200 | Low end for open, flat acreage |
| Per sq ft | $0.01–$0.06 | Useful to sanity-check odd shapes |
| Per person-hour | $50–$65 | Most crews bill about $60 |

Weekly vs Every Two Weeks
Grass that grows for two weeks is taller and thicker. The cut takes longer, clippings clump and you often need a second pass, so every-two-weeks service should cost more per visit. Housecall Pro's 2026 guide puts a 1/4-acre lot at $45–$65 weekly and $60–$85 every two weeks, about 30% more.
Weekly customers are also worth more: twice the visits on the same route stop. Many businesses offer every-two-weeks service only in the slow months, or not at all.
How to Price Lawn Mowing per Month
Monthly billing smooths your cash flow and stops customers skipping cuts in a rainy week. Work it out from the price per visit:
- Weekly: price per cut × 4.33 (52 weeks ÷ 12 months). A $49 cut is $212 a month.
- Every two weeks: price per cut × 2.17. A $64 cut is $139 a month.
- Season contracts: spread the season's cuts over the months you bill, so a 30-cut season at $49 is $1,470, or $184 a month over 8 months.
Overgrown Lawns, Slopes and Obstacles
Quote these before you start, not after:
- Overgrown or first cut of the season: about 50% more, or a flat $20–$60 surcharge. Tall grass clogs the deck and may need two passes.
- Obstacles: trees, beds, play sets and fences mean more trimming. This guide's calculator adds 15%.
- Slopes and hills: slower and riskier mowing, often with a walk-behind. The calculator adds 25%.
- Bagging clippings and hauling: charge for it, or include it only on your premium plan.

Lawn Care Add-On Prices (2026)
| Service | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Leaf / fall cleanup | $190–$540 |
| Spring cleanup | $125–$400 |
| Hedge and shrub trimming | $5–$20 per shrub; hedges $2.50–$4 per linear ft |
| Bed weeding | $65–$170 per visit |
| Core aeration | $70–$225 |
| Overseeding (with aeration) | $0.10–$0.35 per sq ft |
| Fertilizer application | $65–$100 |
| Mulch, installed | $77–$94 per cubic yard |
Ranges from Housecall Pro, Jobber, RealGreen and LawnStarter 2026 guides. Add-ons are where lawn care margin lives: sell them on the same visit, when the crew is already there.
Worked Example: 1/4-Acre Lot with Trees and Beds
| Line | Math | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Base fee for the stop | $35 | |
| Grass area | 7,000 sq ft ÷ 1,000 × $2.00 | $14 |
| Obstacles (trees, beds) | $49 × 1.15 | $56 per cut |
| Weekly monthly price | $56 × 4.33 | $243 a month |
| Fall leaf cleanup (once) | $300 |
Check it against your hours: if a crew of one spends about 45 minutes on site plus the drive, $56 covers a $60 billed hour with room for fuel and equipment.
Set a Minimum and Protect Your Margin
Set a minimum of $40–$50 per visit so small lawns still cover the stop. Lawn care businesses typically net 15–25% on residential work, and fuel, blades, insurance and drive time eat into it quickly.
Price from your costs, not your competitors' flyers: price = total cost ÷ (1 − target margin). A stop that costs you $40 should be $50 for a 20% margin. Your crew's wage sets the floor; see what landscaping workers earn in your metro in the 2026 Contractor Labor Cost Index.
