What you’ll get from this calculator

  • Most lawn care businesses charge $45–$65 per weekly cut for a typical suburban lawn (a lot of up to 1/2 acre) in 2026.
  • Larger lawns run about $60–$150 for 1/2–1 acre and $100–$260 for 2 acres. Per acre, quotes run $50–$200, with the lowest rates on big, open lots.
  • Cuts every two weeks cost about 30% more per visit than weekly cuts, because the grass is taller and slower to cut.
  • Set a $40–$50 minimum per visit and price cleanups, aeration and hedge trimming as separate lines.

How to Price a Lawn Mowing Job (5 Steps)

Use the same inputs this calculator uses, in this order, and every mowing quote comes out consistent:

  • 1. Measure the grass, not the lot. A 1/4-acre lot (10,890 sq ft) with a house, driveway and beds is usually 6,000–8,000 sq ft of lawn. Satellite maps make this a two-minute job before you visit.
  • 2. Start from a base fee plus a rate per 1,000 sq ft. The base fee covers the stop itself (unloading, travel, trimming and blowing); the area rate covers mowing time. The defaults here are $35 + $2.00 per 1,000 sq ft.
  • 3. Adjust for frequency. Cuts every two weeks take longer because the grass is taller, so charge about 30% more per visit.
  • 4. Adjust for condition and terrain. Overgrown lawns and first cuts of the season take 1.5× the time. Trees, beds and slopes add trimming.
  • 5. Apply your minimum per visit, then quote add-ons like cleanups, aeration and hedge trimming as separate lines the customer can approve one by one.

The Lawn Mowing Pricing Formula

Price per visit = (base fee + lawn sq ft ÷ 1,000 × rate) × frequency × condition × terrain, with your minimum per visit as the floor. Monthly price = price per visit × 4.33 for weekly service (52 cuts ÷ 12 months), or × 2.17 for cuts every two weeks.

Check the result against an hourly target. Most lawn crews bill $50–$65 per person-hour, and one survey found 78% of landscapers charge about $60 an hour. If a $49 cut takes one person 45 minutes on site plus the drive, you are close to that target; if it takes 75 minutes, raise the rate.

Every rate is editable under Advanced settings, so the calculator prices lawns the way you do.

Lawn Mowing Pricing FAQs

How much should I charge to mow a lawn?▼
Most lawn care businesses charge $45–$65 per weekly cut for a typical suburban lawn on a lot of up to 1/2 acre in 2026. Price from the mowable area, then adjust for frequency, condition and terrain, and keep a minimum of $40–$50 per visit.
How much should I charge to mow an acre?▼
An acre of grass typically runs $100–$150 per cut, and quotes per acre range from $50 to $200. Open, flat acreage with a big mower sits at the low end; acreage with trees, slopes and lots of trimming sits at the top.
Should I charge more for mowing every two weeks?▼
Yes. Grass that grows for two weeks is taller and thicker, so the cut takes longer and often needs a second pass. Most businesses charge about 30% more per visit for every-two-weeks service than for weekly service.
How much should I charge per month for lawn mowing?▼
Multiply the price per visit by 4.33 for weekly service (52 cuts ÷ 12 months), or by 2.17 for cuts every two weeks. A $49 weekly cut is about $212 a month. Monthly billing smooths out your cash flow and stops customers skipping cuts in rainy weeks.
How much extra should I charge for an overgrown lawn?▼
Charge about 50% more for a lawn that is overgrown or has not been cut in weeks, or add a flat $20–$60 surcharge. Tall grass takes longer, clogs the deck and often needs two passes. Quote it before you start so it isn't a surprise.
What profit margin should a lawn care business make?▼
Most lawn care businesses net 15–25% on residential work. Price from your costs: price = total cost ÷ (1 − target margin). A route stop that costs you $40 in labor, fuel and equipment should be quoted at $50 for a 20% margin.
